Two Opportunities for "Bible Doing"

Dear Middletown Reformed Church Family and Friends,

Blessings of Pentecost joy be with you!

I hope you have enjoyed the cooler weather in New Jersey this past week. It seems the heat is back on today, though.

Beloved ones of MRC, I have two items of interest to share with you this Friday. They are both opportunities for “Bible Doing” based on the theme of our August Sermon Series.

First, the Calico Cat Food Pantry of the Community Outreach Group is, once again, asking for our help in their Back to School Gift Card Program for working families in need in our community. They are asking that we send in $25 gift cards so that parents and caregivers may purchase items for their children returning to school in the fall. Gift cards should be received at COG by August 30.

Second, as you are aware we were unable to host a Vacation Bible School (VBS) this year because our partner the Middletown Arts Center is having their wonderful summer art program here on our church campus. It is truly a blessing to see our Education Building in use again and to hear the joyful sounds of young ones out on the Great Lawn. So, there’s no VBS here at our church, but still your little ones have a chance to attend VBS! One of our sister churches in the Community Outreach Group, Middletown United Methodist Church, asked me to share that they are having a Vacation Bible School August 9-13 from 9 AM - 12 PM called “Treasured: Discovering You’re Priceless to God.” What a fantastic message to impart to our kids and youth as they begin their faith journey!

Providing back-to-school items for those in need and teaching our young ones that they are loved by God more than they could ask or imagine — this is definitely “Bible Doing” — and I’m glad we as a church family can participate in answering the call to follow Jesus.

So family of God, come on Sunday to worship at 10:30 AM AM this Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost in person or via YouTube — MRC: A Fabulous Church of Love. Our featured soloist is Diane Grady, and she will be singing “The Gift of Love” for our Anthem and “Song of Hope” for our Benediction. I will be continuing our August Sermon Series from the Letter of James called “Bible Doing” and my sermon title is Heart of God Faith and Body of Christ Works. As it is the Second Sunday, we will receive a special offering for our Deacons’ Fund. Lastly, as the highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 is rising in our state, and Monmouth County is a high transmission zone for the variant, we strongly urge/request that everyone wear a mask for worship and indoor church events. Thank you for your cooperation in loving yourself, your neighbor and keeping everyone safe and healthy.

In gratitude for the privilege of being your pastor and the holy call of loving you,

Pastor Trish
