The Joy of the Lord -- Third Sunday of Advent

posted Dec 10, 2021, 6:34 AM by Tricia Sheffield

Dear Middletown Reformed Church Family and Friends,

Blessings of Advent peace to you!

Judy and I have been looking forward with joy to our Third Sunday of Advent worship. You will notice our order of worship will be a bit different this Sunday, with Scripture and inspirational readings, interspersed with sacred music. Max Matolak will be our Advent candle lighting reader, and he and his mother will light the pink candle of Joy. Our featured soloists are Tim Anderson, Juliet Gallagher, Diane Grady, and Izaak Thorpe, along with our Joyful Noise Adult Choir and Andrew Olenik, violin. I will give a brief reflection called The Risk of Joy. As it is the second Sunday of the month, we will be taking a special offering for our Deacons’ Fund to help those in need in our community. So come to church this Sunday at 10:30 AM in person or on FaceBook live to wait and expect the hope, peace, and joy of the soon-coming birth of Jesus.

As you are aware, we have resumed congregational singing and since the numbers of COVID-19 infections are rising rapidly in our area everyone must wear a mask for worship and indoor church events. Thank you for your cooperation in loving yourself, your neighbor, and keeping everyone safe and healthy.

If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete (John 15.10-11). Amen! May you live in Christ’s joy — no matter what.

In gratitude for the privilege of being your pastor and the holy call of loving you,

Pastor Trish
