Loaves and Fishes

Dear Middletown Reformed Church Family and Friends,

Epiphany blessings to you!

I just returned from serving lunch at the Bayshore Lunch Program with several of our volunteers. It is a joy and privilege not only to work with such amazing women from the Dorcas Circle, but also to feed the people of the Bayshore area a hot and delicious meal. It is during these times that I feel we as a church are sincerely living out the call to be the hands and feet of Christ. So, thank you for all the ways you support this ministry.

Interestingly, whenever we participate in a feeding ministry, I often think back to what Jesus said to his disciples right before the miracle of the loaves and fishes in Matthew 14: “Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, ‘This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.’ Jesus said to them, ‘They need not go away; you give them something to eat.’ And thus, everyone had enough of their fill for that day.

It is with joy I look forward to being with you in person or on FaceBook live this Seventh Sunday after Epiphany at 10:30 AM. Juliet Gallagher is our featured musician this week and she will be singing “All Are Welcome” for the Prelude, “For the Healing of the Nations” for the Anthem, and “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace” for the Offertory. I will be preaching from Genesis 45.3-11, 15 and Luke 6.27-38 and my sermon title is A Good Measure. Ms. Judy has returned from her vacation and will be back with us in worship.

See you Sunday, beloved body of Christ!

In gratitude for the privilege of being your pastor and the holy call of loving you,

Pastor Trish
